Allergy Information
Many of our customers have chemical sensitivities and need to know specifics about what our fabrics and trims are made of. We strive to make our clothing as pure and allergy-free as possible while still producing functional, contemporary styles with mainstream appeal. We hope the following information is helpful.
For additional information we suggest you search the web using any of the highlighted terms below.
Fabrics: Organic Bamboo and Cotton
The natural fibers in our fabrics are all organically grown - cotton, bamboo and hemp, which are not fumigated or treated with pesticides. The fiber is GOTS certified.
Our bamboo blend fabric is specifically 66% rayon from bamboo fiber. We have several fabrics that are 100% organically grown cotton.
Many of our fabrics contain 5%- 13% spandex for stretch and shape retention. Spandex does not contain latex.
On this website, every style has a fabric tab with an accurate description of fiber content.
Latex Free
None of our fabrics contain latex.
Most of our elastics are nylon. Some do contain latex but in most cases the elastic is enclosed in fabric and does not touch the skin. There are a couple of exceptions. The "Features" tab for every style states clearly whether the style is latex-free, has covered latex elastic, or uncovered latex elastic.
Dyes
We use fiber reactive dyes which are low impact, non-toxic dyes and do not require heavy metal mordants. We do not use disperse or sulfate dyes.
The fabric and dye mills we use follow GOTS standards, using only approved compounds for knitting and dyeing our fabrics.
Soft cups
Some of our bra styles come with optional molded cups that fit into pockets of the bra. These cups are made of synthetic polyurethane foam with 100% polyester fabric on both sides. If used correctly, the cups do not come in contact with the skin.
We have been unable to find a commercially viable natural alternative.
Spandex
Cotton knit fabric by itself has no âreturnâ. When you stretch it out, it stays stretched out. It doesnât return to its original shape. It doesnât give when you move. It canât hug the body, or offer support to a bra. That is why we include small percentages of spandex in many of our organic fabrics. Itâs a small percentage that adds a lot of performance and comfort features to our clothing.
The name is an anagram of the word âexpandsâ . Pure spandex can stretch to 5-8 times its normal size, and return back, like a rubber band. In most cases it is knit in small percentages into other fabrics. Spandex is a synthetic fiber made from polyurethane. It does not contain latex or silicone.
Our organic cotton spandex bras contain 13% spandex. Our organic cotton/bamboo jersey and fleece fabrics contain 6% spandex. Our organic cotton slub fabric contains 5% spandex. Our other fabrics are 100% organically grown cotton.
Thread
For styles that are garment dyed, including stripes and marls and some cotton tops, we use 100% cotton thread. For styles that use dyed fabric â mostly the solid bamboo and cotton pant styles, as well as all lingerie, we use poly core thread that is surrounded by a layer of cotton.
